Explore the world of coins at the Mint Museum
Where the Japanese coins are made
The Mint Museum located inside Japan Mint uses the brick-made building which was once a power plant.
On the weekdays, you can actually see the factory making coins.
Both the museum and the factory are free!
There are many exhibits about coin manufacturing, including the medals from Tokyo Olympics and Nagano Olympics which Japan Mint manufactured.
There are also displays where you can touch a bar of gold and carry ”Senryobako” (a box used in Edo period to carry traditional coins).
Exploring the history of coins
The display on the third floor beautifully exhibits old Japanese coins.
The rare coins from Toyotomi and Tokugawa’s era can be seen here at the museum.
The famous "Cherry blossom gate"
Within the property of Japan Mint, there are many cherry blossom trees planted along the Yodogawa river which range to 560 meters.
The area will be open to the public during the cherry blossom season in mid-April for a week, and the event is now considered as a seasonal event for the locals.
The Mint Shop where you can purchase souvenirs and memorial coins
At the museum shop, you can purchase memorial coins. These would be a perfect choice for a souvenir.
