Visiting Awamori Storage by Yui Rail
In the Ryukyu kingdom period, awamori distill was only permitted to three towns (Shuri Sanka). Out of four distilleries we are introducing, three is still located in the Shuri Sanka and Mizuho distillery is located two train stops away from Sanka, near "Ichiritsu Byoin Mae Station".
The oldest storage in Shuri "Mizuho Shuzo"
Mizuho Shuzo is the oldest distillery existing in Shuri, and known as a pioneer of Koshu (Aged awamori). Tour in "Tenryu Storage" is held here. Under the square lid is the underground storage. Various brands can be tasted, including some plum liquors.
Dedicated to the best taste "Sakimoto Shuzo"
"Sakimoto Shuzo" has been passing down their traditional method of handmade awamori for generations. The photo is the tasting corner. Awamori made by avoiding over filtered distill is perfect for vintaged ones. No reason not to try them!
Rich and smooth vintaged taste "Shikina Shuzo"
The oldest vintage koshu exists in here "Shikina Shuzo", stored for over 150 years through the war periods. Tastings are available for mainly "Shigure" brand. Awamori Izakaya restaurant "Time Tokoro" is also ran by this distillery. It is also a good idea to enjoy awamori at this restaurant with delicious dishes!
"Zuisen Shuzo" from the fountain in Shuri castle
Right next to the Zuisenmon gate of Shuri castle, a water spring "Ryuhi" is located. The naming "Zuisen" derives from here. Okinawa limited and special edition awamori etc. is available for tastings. The distillery is accessible by walk from Shuri castle.
