The longest shopping street in Japan: Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street

At 2.6 km long, Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street is considered to be the longest shopping street in Japan!
The street stretches from Tenjinbashisuji 1-chome to 6-chome, covering the distance of three stations on the Osaka Metro Sakaisuji Line, from Minamimorimachi Station to Tenjinbashisuji 6-chome Station via Ogimachi Station.

Along the street there are lots of restaurants, clothing stores, entertainment stores and more, which are always bustling with shoppers! Among them you can also find some surprisingly retro shops!

Pay a visit to Osaka Tenmangu Shrine!

Let's start our stroll from the Osaka Metro Minamimorimachi Station end of the street, which is at 1-chome of the Tenjinsuji area.
(If you go a little south from Minamimorimachi Station, you will find the gate to the street.)

Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street has long prospered as the home of Osaka Tenmangu Shrine. Shortly after entering from the 1-chome gate, take a right and you will see Osaka Tenmangu Shrine. Let's pay it a visit!

The shrine, dedicated to the god of scholarship, Michizane Sugawara, hosts one of Japan's three major festivals, the Tenjin Festival, in the summer.
This is also one of the three major summer festivals in Osaka, along with the Ikutama Summer Festival at Ikutama Shrine and the Sumiyoshi Festival at Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine.
The shrine also has some love "power spots", places where you can recieve spiritual energy for love!

Have a break after visiting the locals' favorite shrine, "Tenma no Tenjin-san."

Locals call Osaka Tenmangu Shrine by its nickname ,"Tenma no Tenjin-san." Why not take a break after worshiping at "Tenma no Tenjin-san"?

This area is also known as Tengo Sushi Battlefield because of its high density of Sushi places.

Among them, this time we picked Sushi Masa Nakaten for lunch!
This is a popluar place which often has a line of customers wating outside of the door at lunch time.
The weekday meal set is only 550 yen, including tax, and even comes with red miso soup.
This is an amazingly low price given the generous helpings.

Finally, the last stretch to the end of the street

Finally, we arrive at the goal of the long street stretching 2.6 km!

From the start at the popular "Tenjin-san" shrine, the selection of great cafes, clothing stores and retro shops seemed to continue endlessly all the way to the end of the street.
This is the perfect place for finding souvenirs as it offers so many different options to choose from.
